Terms of Service

Effective date: 6 October 2026

These Terms of Service apply to programmes and educational services provided by Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service, referred to below as “NOTS,” “we,” “us” or “our.”

By registering for a programme, the student—or the student’s parent or legal guardian when the student has not reached the age of majority—agrees to these terms.

1. Educational services

NOTS provides independent online instruction and examination preparation. NOTS currently offers online preparation for private candidates writing CSEC English A.

Instruction is designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills and examination strategies required for their selected subject.

NOTS is an independent tutoring service. It is not part of, endorsed by or affiliated with the Caribbean Examinations Council.

2. Programme delivery

Programme materials, announcements, discussion forums, assignments, quizzes, feedback, grades and deadlines are provided through Moodle.

Scheduled live lessons, workshops, presentations and supervised practice sessions are conducted through Zoom.

Students are responsible for checking Moodle regularly. Moodle is the official source for course materials, announcements, assignment instructions and deadlines.

3. CSEC English A programme schedule

The CSEC English A programme is designed for individuals preparing to write the CSEC English A examination as private candidates.

The programme includes:

  • Two 90-minute Zoom lessons each week

  • Guided independent learning through Moodle

  • Discussion forums, quizzes, writing assignments and examination practice

  • Preparation for the relevant CSEC English A examination papers

The 2026–2027 programme runs for 32 weeks, including Diagnostic and Orientation Week in Week 1. It consists of two 12-week terms followed by an eight-week examination-readiness phase.

The final class days and times will be communicated before the programme begins. Schedule adjustments may be made when required by the official examination timetable, public holidays, emergencies or circumstances beyond the reasonable control of Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service.

4. Registration and admission

Submitting a registration form does not automatically guarantee admission or placement in a particular cohort or class time.

Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service will review the applicant’s availability, the availability of compatible class schedules, cohort size, minimum enrolment requirements and available spaces.

When a suitable place is available, the applicant will receive a proposed cohort schedule. Enrolment is confirmed only after the applicant:

  • Provides all required registration information

  • Accepts the proposed cohort schedule

  • Accepts the programme policies and Terms of Service

  • Pays the required tuition by the stated deadline

Week 1 of the programme is Diagnostic and Orientation Week. The diagnostic is completed after enrolment and is used to identify the student’s academic strengths, learning needs and any additional work or support required. It is not an entrance examination and does not determine admission.

Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service may decline or defer admission when:

  • The programme or suitable cohort is full

  • Minimum enrolment has not been reached

  • No compatible cohort schedule is available

  • Required registration information has not been provided

  • The applicant has not accepted the programme policies or schedule

  • Required payment has not been completed

  • The applicant cannot meet the programme’s essential participation or technology requirements

  • The applicant’s conduct presents a significant risk to the learning environment

Information supplied during registration must be accurate and complete.

5. Students who have not reached the age of majority

When a student has not reached the age of majority in the jurisdiction where the student resides, a parent or legal guardian must:

  • Approve the student’s registration

  • Accept these Terms of Service

  • Provide accurate contact information

  • Accept responsibility for programme fees

  • Assist the student in maintaining safe and appropriate online participation

  • Communicate with NOTS when a matter requires parental or guardian involvement

6. Fees and payments

Tuition for the period 12–31 October 2026 is prorated at EC$225 and must be paid before the student begins the programme.

Beginning on 1 November 2026, tuition is EC$300 per calendar month and is payable at the beginning of each month by the deadline stated on the invoice.

Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service does not offer weekly, term or full-programme payment arrangements for the 2026–2027 programme.

Payment may be made through ECAB or PayPal. Payment instructions will be provided on the student’s invoice after a suitable cohort has been offered and accepted.

The Week 1 diagnostic and all required materials produced by Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service are included in the tuition fee. Students are not required to purchase a textbook.

CXC registration, examination and related government or institutional fees are not included. Students are responsible for registering as private candidates and paying the applicable fees through the appropriate authority in their respective territories.

Students, parents or guardians are responsible for:

  • Paying the required tuition by the stated deadline

  • Confirming that payment information is accurate

  • Retaining receipts or other proof of payment

  • Paying CXC registration and examination fees directly to the appropriate authority

Access to Zoom lessons, Moodle, course materials, marked assignments or other programme services may be restricted when required payments remain outstanding.

Once a teaching month has begun, the tuition paid for that month is normally non-refundable. A student who does not intend to continue into the following month must provide written notice before the next payment becomes due. The student will not be charged for future months after valid written withdrawal notice has been received.

7. Withdrawal and refunds

A student who wishes to withdraw from the programme must provide written notice by email or through the official Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service WhatsApp number.

The notice must include:

  • The student’s full name

  • The student’s cohort

  • The intended withdrawal date

  • A clear statement that the student wishes to withdraw

Merely ceasing to attend Zoom lessons or complete Moodle activities does not constitute formal withdrawal. The effective withdrawal date is the date on which Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service receives the written notice.

Once a teaching month has begun, the tuition paid for that month is normally non-refundable. Failure to attend classes, complete assignments or use the available programme services does not cancel the student’s payment obligation for a month that has already begun.

A student who withdraws before the next monthly payment becomes due will not be charged for future months.

If Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service cancels paid instruction that cannot reasonably be rescheduled, the student will receive an appropriate credit, adjustment or refund.

Approved refunds will, where reasonably possible, be returned through the original payment method. The time required for the funds to reach the student may depend on the bank or payment processor.

8. Student responsibilities

Students are expected to:

  • Attend scheduled Zoom lessons consistently and arrive prepared

  • Complete Moodle preparation before live lessons

  • Check Moodle announcements and deadlines regularly

  • Complete assignments, quizzes, forums and examinations by the published deadlines

  • Participate respectfully in lessons and discussion forums

  • Read and use instructor feedback

  • Maintain organised course records and an error-and-improvement log

  • Inform the instructor promptly when serious circumstances affect participation

  • Complete assessed work honestly and independently

  • Use course materials only for their personal studies

Students remain responsible for missed work, whether or not the absence was unavoidable.

9. Technology requirements

Students must have reasonable access to:

  • A computer or tablet suitable for online learning

  • A dependable internet connection

  • Moodle

  • Zoom

  • A working microphone

  • Headphones or earphones when required

  • Email

  • Word-processing software capable of producing Word or PDF documents

Students should test their equipment before lessons and assessments. NOTS is not responsible for interruptions caused by a student’s device, internet service, electricity supply or other personal technology problem.

When a significant technical problem occurs, the student should contact NOTS promptly. An extension or alternative arrangement is not automatic and will depend on the circumstances and the nature of the activity.

10. Attendance and missed lessons

Regular attendance is expected because Zoom lessons include modelling, guided practice, discussions, presentations and supervised examination work.

A student who misses a lesson remains responsible for:

  • Reviewing the relevant Moodle lesson

  • Completing the assigned activities

  • Obtaining any posted materials

  • Meeting the published deadlines

  • Asking specific questions after reviewing the available material

A private make-up lesson, transfer to another class or lesson recording is not guaranteed.

Repeated absence or failure to complete Moodle work may result in a progress conference, a readiness warning or a recommendation that the student defer the examination.

11. Assignments and deadlines

Moodle is the official source for assignment instructions and deadlines.

Unless an activity states otherwise, work is due at the date and time displayed in Moodle. Students should request an extension before the deadline whenever possible.

Extensions may be considered for serious illness, bereavement, emergencies or other significant circumstances. Granting an extension remains subject to the nature of the assignment and the evidence available.

Timed tests, presentations, supervised assessments and mock examinations may have stricter deadline and attendance requirements.

12. Discussion forums and online conduct

Students must communicate respectfully in Moodle forums and Zoom sessions.

Students must not:

  • Harass, threaten or ridicule another person

  • Use discriminatory, abusive or sexually inappropriate language

  • Disrupt lessons deliberately

  • Share another student’s personal information

  • Record another participant without permission

  • Post full answers to active assessments

  • Share offensive, unlawful or unrelated material

  • Give Moodle or Zoom access information to another person

NOTS may remove inappropriate content and may restrict or terminate access when serious or repeated misconduct occurs.

13. Academic integrity and artificial intelligence

Submitted work must represent the student’s own knowledge, analysis and decisions.

Students must not use another person, an answer service, unauthorised notes, translation software or generative artificial intelligence to produce assessed answers unless the activity expressly permits that assistance.

When artificial intelligence or another digital tool is permitted, the student must follow the disclosure and citation instructions provided.

NOTS may use Moodle activity records, document history, supervised work, follow-up questions or a brief oral conference to verify authorship and understanding.

Academic dishonesty may result in:

  • A requirement to repeat the work

  • A reduced or cancelled internal score

  • A progress warning

  • Removal from an assessment

  • Suspension or termination of programme access in serious or repeated cases

14. Course materials and intellectual property

NOTS course materials may include lesson pages, slides, recordings, worksheets, quizzes, assignments, model responses, marking guides and examination-preparation resources.

These materials are provided only for the personal educational use of registered students.

Students may not:

  • Sell or redistribute course materials

  • Upload materials to another website or learning platform

  • Share files with people who are not registered

  • Publish lesson recordings or screenshots

  • Reproduce substantial portions of the programme for commercial or teaching purposes

  • Remove NOTS ownership or attribution information

Official CXC materials remain subject to the rights and conditions established by the Caribbean Examinations Council.

15. Zoom recordings

A Zoom lesson may be recorded only when there is a defined educational purpose and appropriate notice has been given.

Students may be informed in advance when a session will be recorded. Recordings may capture a participant’s name, voice, image, chat contribution or presentation.

Students must not make their own audio, video or screen recording without express permission.

When a recording is made available, it is restricted to authorized students and may not be downloaded, copied, edited, shared or published unless NOTS gives written permission.

16. Privacy

NOTS collects information reasonably required to:

  • Process registration

  • Communicate with students, parents or guardians

  • Deliver programmes

  • Maintain attendance and academic records

  • Process payments

  • Provide feedback and student support

  • Protect the security and integrity of the learning environment

Moodle, Zoom, email, online forms and payment providers may process information according to their own privacy policies.

Students should avoid posting private or sensitive personal information in discussion forums, Zoom chats or shared activities.

Additional information is provided in the NOTS Privacy Policy.

17. Examination registration

NOTS provides examination preparation but does not register candidates for CXC examinations unless a separate written arrangement expressly states otherwise.

Each student—or the student’s parent or guardian—is responsible for:

  • Identifying the appropriate registration authority

  • Completing examination registration correctly and on time

  • Paying all examination and institutional fees

  • Confirming examination dates and locations

  • Obtaining required identification and candidate documents

  • Following all official examination instructions

18. Examination information

NOTS makes reasonable efforts to align instruction with the applicable syllabus and published examination requirements.

CXC may revise syllabuses, timetables, topics, paper formats, permitted materials or candidate instructions. When this occurs, NOTS may adjust lessons, Moodle activities, assessments or programme schedules.

Official instructions issued by CXC or the candidate’s registering authority take precedence over NOTS materials.

19. Results and completion

Participation in a NOTS programme does not guarantee:

  • Admission to an examination

  • Completion of examination registration

  • A pass

  • A particular grade

  • Admission to an educational institution

  • Employment or professional advancement

A NOTS completion document, when issued, confirms completion of the applicable NOTS requirements. It is not a CXC certificate, an academic degree or an independently accredited qualification.

20. Programme changes and cancellations

NOTS may change a lesson date, instructor arrangement, activity, assessment or delivery procedure when reasonably necessary.

When NOTS cancels a scheduled lesson, reasonable efforts will be made to:

  • Reschedule the lesson

  • Provide an appropriate alternative activity

  • Adjust the programme calendar

  • Communicate the change promptly

Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service may postpone, combine or cancel a cohort when minimum enrolment is not reached or when circumstances make delivery impracticable. Affected students will be offered, as appropriate, placement in another suitable cohort, a credit towards a later cohort, rescheduling of paid instructional time or a refund for paid services that will not be provided. No student will lose paid instructional time because Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service cancelled a lesson or cohort.

21. Suspension or termination

NOTS may suspend or terminate a student’s access for:

  • Serious or repeated misconduct

  • Harassment or threats

  • Academic dishonesty

  • Unauthorised sharing of course materials

  • Improper recording or publication of lessons

  • Misuse of Moodle or Zoom access

  • Continued non-payment

  • Conduct that materially disrupts or endangers the learning environment

Whenever reasonably appropriate, the student—or the student’s parent or guardian—will be informed of the concern and given an opportunity to respond.

22. Changes to these terms

Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service may update these Terms of Service when programmes, platforms, legal requirements or operational procedures change.

The revised Terms of Service will be published on the Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service website with an updated effective date.

Students will be informed by email, WhatsApp or another official communication method when a material change significantly affects an active enrolment. Material changes will ordinarily apply prospectively. Where appropriate, students may be required to confirm their acceptance of the revised terms.

Changes to these terms will not remove instructional time or other services for which a student has already paid without an appropriate rescheduling, credit, adjustment or refund.

23. Contact

Questions about these Terms of Service may be directed to Nelson’s Online Tutoring Service through the contact information provided on the website.

By registering for a NOTS programme, the student—or the student’s parent or legal guardian where applicable—confirms that these Terms of Service have been read and accepted
